MDOT and local library seek input through Internet
CALUMET — The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Calumet Public School Library are partnering to help set the direction for transportation decisions and investments through 2030.

From June 26 through July 21, patrons accessing the Internet through the library’s computers (www.clkschools.org/library) will be encouraged to complete a brief on-line questionnaire to help MDOT update its long range transportation plan. Called MI (pronounced”my”) Transportation Plan, the new plan will support MDOT’s efforts to create a transportation system that is intelligent, inclusive, integrated, international, and socially, environmentally and economically responsible.

Through the Library of Michigan (part of the Michigan Department of History, Arts and Libraries), regional library cooperatives and local libraries, MDOT is hoping to gather thousands of opinions from the public to plan a future transportation system that is responsive to the needs of all transportation users, especially those who walk, bike and ride buses.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to partner with MDOT to help set the course for future transportation decisions locally and statewide,” said librarian Debra Oyler “Our library serves an important research function, so it’s fitting that we provide an avenue for MDOT to research the opinions of our patrons who rely on transportation to access our library.”

The online questionnaire will be available through any Internet connection, 24-hours a day on the MI Transportation Plan Web site at www.michigan.gov/slrp. This is the first of three, four-week sessions that MDOT will conduct during the next 10 months to involve the public in its planning process.
