Trailer hits building
MARQUETTE — A double-axle trailer became disconnected from a sport utility vehicle driving on U.S. 41 Sunday evening and crashed through the glass doors of a business, causing significant damage.
According to a press release from the Negaunee post of the Michigan State Police, 29-year-old Landon McGahey of Marquette was westbound on U.S. 41 at about 6 p.m. when his trailer became disconnected from his 1994 GMC Jimmy. The trailer veered off the right side of the highway and entered the parking lot of Northland Furniture and Appliance, adjacent to the highway.
The trailer crashed through the east entrance of the building, destroying glass doors and causing significant damage to the exterior and interior walls, as well as the building’s main structural I-beam.
Furniture in the showroom was also struck and damaged before the trailer came to rest.
The store was not open for business at the time of the crash, and no one was injured. The trailer was impounded for positive identification and inspection of safety equipment.
The incident remains under investigation, and no citations were issued.
