Township, county millages on ballot
MARQUETTE — Marquette County residents will decide the fate of several millage requests when they go to the polls for the August primary election.
In addition to three countywide millage proposals, 12 townships have placed millage requests on the ballot.
COUNTYWIDE:
- A request to replace the Marquette County Commission on Aging millage with a services to senior citizens millage. The request is for .4474 mills for six years. The millage would raise about $711,154 in its first year.
- A request to restore the .1125 mills approved in 2000 to provide search and rescue and technical rescue services, and adding .04 mills for Technical Rescue Unit 131. The request is for six years and would raise about $242,403 in its first year.
- A request to restore the .4970 mills approved in 2000 to operate the 911 emergency dispatch system. The request is for six years and would generate about $760,906 in its first year.
CHAMPION TOWNSHIP:
- A request to renew 1 mill to be levied for financing township emergency medical services costs. The request is for five years and would raise about $9,909 in its first year.
CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP:
- A request to renew an amount not to exceed .8299 mills for library services. The request is for five years and would raise about $116,628 in its first year.
EWING TOWNSHIP:
- A request for 2 mills for road improvement, repairs and maintenance. The request is for four years and would raise about $12,100 in its first year.
- A request for 1 mill to help cover the cost of garbage service. The request is for seven years and would raise about $6,050 in its first year.
FORSYTH TOWNSHIP:
- A request for .4690 mills to recapture reduced millage. The request is for five years and would raise about $56,728.73 in its first year.
HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP:
- A request to renew 1.5 mills for fire and EMS. The request is for 19 years and would raise about $25,000 in its first year.
- A request for an increase of .5 mills for EMS. The request is for 20 years and would raise about $9,000 in its first year.
- A request to levy 1 mill for road maintenance and improvement. The request is for five years and would raise about $18,000 in its first year.
MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP:
- A request to renew an amount not to exceed .9239 mills for library services. The request is for four years and would raise about $128,593 in its first year.
- A request to recapture .6727 mills reduced by law for road maintenance. The request is for five years and would raise about $93,630 in its first year.
MICHIGAMME TOWNSHIP:
- A request to renew 2 mills for general operating purposes. The request is for six years and would raise about $47,366 in its first year.
POWELL TOWNSHIP:
- A request to renew 2.5 mills for all township purposes. The request is for five years and would raise about $130,365.62 in its first year.
- A request to renew 1 mill for garbage removal services. The request is for two years and would raise about $52,146.25 in its first year.
REPUBLIC TOWNSHIP:
- A request to renew 5 mills for operation purposes. The request is for four years and would raise about $199,753 in its first year.
SANDS TOWNSHIP:
- A request for .5 mills for equipment, maintenance and operation of township recreational facilities. The request is for 10 years and would raise about $25,959 in its first year.
SKANDIA TOWNSHIP:
- A request to renew an amount not to exceed 1 mill for library services. The request is for five years and would raise about $16,622.56 in its first year.
WEST BRANCH TOWNSHIP:
- A request to renew an amount not to exceed .9682 mills for library services. The request is for five years and would raise about $21,053 in its first year.
